Here is a CHECK LIST you should use to compare painting contractors. Just fill in the chart as you talk with contractors and review proposals for your job. These questions are extremely important. A mistake made in your selection can be very costly and frustrating. We’ve already filled the column where possible for 1-800-PAINT-JOB of San Diego. We recommend you get at least 3 estimates before making your decision.

Did the contractor give you a Quality Guarantee?	YES
Did the contractor give you a WARRANTEE?	YES
Does the contractor carry Worker’s Comp (to limit your legal liability?)	YES
How long has the company (not the contractor) been in business?	16 YEARS
Did the contractor give you a list of references with phone numbers?	YES
Is the contractor a member of the Better Business Bureau?	YES
Is the contractor a member of his trade organization, the PDCA?	YES
Are the painters employees or sub-contractors?	EMPLOYEES
Is the contractor’s PROPOSAL clear with detailed pricing?	YES
Did the contractor give you the time required for the job in writing?	YES
Did the contractor specify the number of coats and type of paint to be used?	YES
Did the contractor specify the type of surface preparation to be used?	YES
Did the contractor show you testimonials from previous customers indicating the quality and character of the painters to be assigned to your job?	YES
Did the contractor appear professional, knowledgeable, clean and neat, indicating how he will treat your property?
Did any references indicate any difficulty getting the company to fix problems?
